Contested Fields in the Discourses of Scholarship<\/em>, edited by Klaus Hock and Nina K\u00e4sehage (LIT Verlag, Zurich, 2020, 272 p., ISBN 978-3-6439-1275-6), pp. 195-216.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The author retraces the development of Islam in the Sahel and its impact on Muslim women from the 8th to the 16th century, in order to shed light on how contemporary Islamism is rooted in a long regional history.
