Vues de \u0160IH\u0100B AL\u2013D\u012aN AL\u2013QAR\u0100F\u012a (m. 1285)&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ABSTRACT: This article discusses the views of the Cairene jurist \u0160ih\u0101b al\u2013D\u012bn al\u2013Qar\u0101f\u012b (d. 1285) of the moral-ity of fighting for God\u2019s cause, as expressed in his work <em>al\u2013A\u01e7wiba al\u2013f\u0101\u1e2bira \u2018an al\u2013as\u2019ila al\u2013f\u0101\u01e7ira <\/em>(Splendid Replies to Insolent Questions). This book is among the most extensive and important medievalMuslim refutations of Christianity composed in response to a popular apology for Christianity written bythe Melkite Bishop of Sidon, Paul of Antioch, around the year 1200. Although Paul remained silent on theissue of the spread of Islam through military conquest, al\u2013Qar\u0101f\u012b still felt the need to address the question,aware of the popularity of this argument in Christian polemics against Islam.
