The scientific committee of Pluriel was received by the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Ahmad al-Tayyib, on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023 to discuss the next academic congress organized by Pluriel in February 2024 in Abu Dhabi on the “Document on Human Fraternity,” which was signed on February 4th, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam.<\/p>\n\n

The interview lasted just over an hour and was centered on the importance of the Document, the purpose of the Congress, and the position of the Al-Azhar on different issues regarding Islam in Europe. The conversation also covered topics such as the relations between the Muslim world and a West affected by secularization, the integration of Muslims in Europe, the rise of populist parties, and diplomatic dialogue between the Vatican and Muslim authorities.<\/p>\n\n

Several Egyptian newspapers such as Al-Ahram<\/em>, Dostor.org, Cairo24, Akhbarelyom.com, and Masralyoum.net reported on the meeting between the members of Pluriel’s scientific coordination and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Ahmad al-Tayyib. The newspapers highlighted the interest of Pluriel members in issues related to Islam in Europe, as well as the warm welcome given by the Grand Imam and his vision to promote the values of peace and fraternity, as well as to strengthen religious and moral values within communities. Pluriel members present at the meeting expressed their satisfaction in being able to exchange with the Imam and listen to his views on these issues, as well as on the international issue of the “Document on Human Fraternity.”<\/p>\n\n

Following the meeting, the scientific committee visited the al-Azhar Observatory for Countering Extremism. Established in 2015, the al-Azhar Observatory analyzes publications on Islam and Muslims around the world. It’s activities include monitoring news related to extremist and terrorist groups, analyzing important publications, providing daily, weekly, and monthly reports, translating documents into ten foreign languages, and preparing analytical studies on current issues. The aim is to correct misconceptions about Islam and answer questions from Muslims and non-Muslims alike.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
