Historian Georges Corm, who had given a lecture at the first Pluriel congress, died in Beirut on August 14, 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Invited to give a lecture at the first <em>Pluriel<\/em> congress in Lyon on September 7, 2016, Georges Corm criticized the instrumentalization of religion in geopolitical conflicts. He rejected the &#8220;clash of civilizations&#8221; theory and denounced the excessive focus on Islam. He also traced the emergence of the discourse on the &#8220;return of religion&#8221; and its strategic use.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Corm called for a &#8220;moratorium on religious discussions&#8221; and a return to universal international law.
