The Qur\u2019an emphasizes God\u2019s mercy, using al-Ra\u1e25m\u0101n as a name for God and describing him as \u201cgentle\u201d (al-\u1e25al\u012bm), \u201cforgiving\u201d (al-ghaf\u016br), \u201crelenting\u201d (al-taww\u0101b),<br \/>\nand \u201cbenevolent\u201d (al-la\u1e6d\u012bf). Ab\u016b \u1e24\u0101mid al-Ghaz\u0101l\u012b (d. 1111) insists (in his Fay\u1e63al al-tafriqa) that God\u2019s mercy surpasses human reason. In my paper, while engaging with the thought of Ghaz\u0101l\u012b, I will argue that the Qur\u2019an<br \/>\nallows for the salvation of non-Muslims even beyond Ghaz\u0101l\u012b\u2019s categories.
