{"id":37296,"date":"2026-09-09T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pluriel.fuce.eu\/?post_type=videos&#038;p=37296"},"modified":"2026-10-07T15:43:54","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T14:43:54","slug":"a-muslim-reads-st-paul-recording-of-the-symposium-on-shabbir-akhtar-now-online","status":"publish","type":"videos","link":"https:\/\/pluriel.fuce.eu\/en\/videos\/a-muslim-reads-st-paul-recording-of-the-symposium-on-shabbir-akhtar-now-online\/","title":{"rendered":"A Muslim Reads St Paul: Recording of the Symposium on Shabbir Akhtar Now Online"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video src=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/scl\/fi\/vb43u9aon8rsbjpus630m\/Shabbir-Akhtar-and-Galatians-edited.mp4?rlkey=5beslpbmu8v3t096o778injn1&amp;st=y863804g&amp;raw=1\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 9 September 2026, the Institute for the Study of Religion in the Middle East (ISRME) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pisai.va\"><strong>Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies<\/strong><\/a> (PISAI, Rome) held an online symposium on <em>The New Testament in Muslim Eyes: Paul&#8217;s Letter to the Galatians<\/em> (Routledge, 2018) by the British philosopher Shabbir Akhtar (1960-2023), the first substantial commentary on a letter of St Paul written by a Muslim scholar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moderated by <a href=\"https:\/\/pluriel.fuce.eu\/en\/chercheur\/david-marshall\/\"><strong>David Marshall<\/strong><\/a>, Guest Editor of the journal <em>Islamochristiana<\/em>, the event opened with an introduction to Akhtar&#8217;s life and work by Martin Whittingham (Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies, Oxford). Saqib Hussain (Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles) and Scott Ryan (Claflin University, South Carolina, United States) then offered readings of the book from a Muslim and a Christian perspective respectively. A panel of four scholars, two Muslims and two Christians, responded: Muhammad Modassir Ali (Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar), Ryann Craig (Georgetown University, Washington), <a href=\"https:\/\/pluriel.fuce.eu\/en\/chercheur\/gabriel-said-reynolds\/\"><strong>Gabriel Said Reynolds<\/strong><\/a> (University of Notre Dame, United States) and Elif Tokay (Istanbul University).
