Nostra Aetate: 60 Years On?

Free webinars. On Thursday 6 and Thursday 27 November 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the Catholic University of Lyon is offering two webinars to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council declaration Nostra Aetate on interreligious relations.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the declaration Nostra Aetate, the conciliar text that has profoundly shaped interreligious dialogue — particularly the relationship between the Catholic Church and Judaism — the Institute of Science and Theology of Religions (ISTR) at the ICP is organising two free webinars, in partnership with the Faculty of Theology at UCLy, the Loyola Paris Faculties, and the Catholic Institute of the Mediterranean.

These events are organised in collaboration with the French Bishops’ Conference and the Centre Théologique de Meylan-Grenoble.

These online conferences will offer privileged moments for reflection and exchange, open to all upon registration:

  • The context in which Nostra Aetate was drafted: Catherine Marin (Lecturer in the History of Missions at ICP and at the Institute of the History of Missions)
  • Rereading Nostra Aetate: what the text says and what it leaves unsaid — Michel Younès (Dean of the Faculty of Theology, UCLy)
  • The spiritual seekers forgotten by Nostra Aetate: Jean-François Meuriot (Director of the Institute of Sciences and Theology of Religions in Marseille)

  • “From Nostra Aetate to a Theology of Dialogue”: the reception of NA by the Magisterium — Xavier Gué (Director of the Institute of Science and Theology of Religions at ICP)
  • The reception and stakes of Nostra Aetate in the Middle Eastern context — Guy Sarkis (Lecturer-Researcher at Saint Joseph University of Beirut)
  • The interpretation and implementation of Nostra Aetate in Sub-Saharan Africa: Jean-Claude Angoula (Lecturer in Theology of Religions at ICP)

These two complementary sessions will weave together memory, analysis, and perspective, bringing together the perspectives of theologians and engaged practitioners.

À l’occasion des 60 ans de la déclaration Nostra Aetate, texte conciliaire qui a profondément marqué le dialogue interreligieux et en particulier la relation entre l’Église catholique et le judaïsme, l’Institut de Science et de Théologie des Religions (ISTR) de l’ICP organise, en partenariat avec la Faculté de théologie de l’UCLy, les Facultés Loyola Paris et l’Institut Catholique de la Méditerranée, deux webinaires gratuits.

  • Relecture de Nostra Aetate : les dits et les non-dits du texte : Michel Younès (Doyen de la Faculté de Théologie de l’UCLy)
  • Les chercheurs spirituels oubliés par Nostra Aetate : Jean-François Meuriot (Directeur de l’Institut des sciences et de théologie des religions à Marseille)

Jeudi 27 novembre 2025, 18h-20h

  • « De Nostra Aetate à la théologie du dialogue » : la réception par le Magistère de NA : Xavier Gué (Directeur de l’Institut de science et de théologie des religions à l’ICP).
  • La réception et les enjeux de Nostra Aetate dans le contexte du Moyen-Orient : Guy Sarkis (enseignant-chercheur à l’Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth)
  • L’interprétation et la mise en œuvre de Nostra Aetate en Afrique subsaharienne :  Jean-Claude Angoula (Chargé d’enseignement en théologie des religions à l’ICP).

Ces deux rendez-vous complémentaires permettront d’articuler mémoire, analyse et perspectives, en croisant le regard de théologiens et d’acteurs engagés.

ندوات إلكترونية مجانية. يومَي الخميس 6 و27 نوفمبر 2025، من السادسة إلى الثامنة مساءً، تُقدّم الجامعة الكاثوليكية في ليون ندوتَين إلكترونيتَين بمناسبة الذكرى الستين لإعلان Nostra Aetate الصادر عن المجمع الفاتيكاني الثاني حول العلاقات بين الأديان.

بمناسبة مرور ستّين عاماً على إعلان Nostra Aetate، ذلك النص المجمعي الذي طبع الحوارَ بين الأديان طبعاً عميقاً، ولا سيّما العلاقة بين الكنيسة الكاثوليكية واليهودية، يُنظّم معهد علوم ولاهوت الأديان (ISTR) في المعهد الكاثوليكي في باريس (ICP) ندوتَين مجانيّتين، بالتعاون مع كلية اللاهوت في الجامعة الكاثوليكية في ليون (UCLy)، وكليات لويولا باريس، والمعهد الكاثوليكي للبحر المتوسط.

يُنظَّم هذان الحدثان بالتعاون مع مؤتمر الأساقفة الفرنسي ومركز الميلان-غرونوبل اللاهوتي.
