Ifpo is recruiting a researcher in Islamic studies for its Jerusalem branch
The French Institute of the Near East (Ifpo) has opened a research position in its Department of Arabic, Medieval and Modern Studies, based at its Jerusalem branch. The successful candidate will set up and lead, from Palestine, a regional research hub in Islamic studies covering Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine and Syria. Ifpo is one of the French research institutes abroad (UMIFRE), under the joint supervision of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, and the CNRS.
Reporting to the Director of Ifpo and the Director of the Department, the post holder will conduct independent research and initiate collective programmes, bring together researchers and institutions from the region and the European Union, develop partnerships, notably with the new Institut français d’islamologie, host doctoral students, organise seminars and scientific events, and seek external funding (ANR, ERC, European programmes).
Applicants must hold a doctorate from a higher education institution in France or another European Union country and have a command of English, literary Arabic and a Near Eastern dialect. C2-level certification in French is required of applicants whose mother tongue is not French. Knowledge of the region is an asset.

L’Institut français du Proche-Orient (Ifpo) ouvre un poste de chercheur au sein de son Département des études arabes, médiévales et modernes, affecté à son antenne de Jérusalem. Le titulaire aura pour mission de mettre en place et de piloter, à partir de la Palestine, un pôle régional de recherche en islamologie couvrant le Liban, la Jordanie, l’Irak, la Palestine et la Syrie. L’Ifpo est une unité mixte des instituts français de recherche à l’étranger (UMIFRE), placée sous la tutelle du ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères, du ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Espace et du CNRS.
Sous l’autorité du directeur de l’Ifpo et du directeur du département, le titulaire du poste mènera ses propres recherches et impulsera des programmes collectifs ; il mobilisera des chercheurs et des institutions de la région et de l’Union européenne, nouera des partenariats, notamment avec le nouvel Institut français d’islamologie, accueillera des doctorants, organisera séminaires et manifestations scientifiques et recherchera des financements extérieurs (ANR, ERC, programmes européens).
Les candidats doivent être titulaires d’un doctorat d’un établissement d’enseignement supérieur français ou d’un autre pays de l’Union européenne et maîtriser l’anglais, l’arabe littéral et un dialecte du Proche-Orient. Une certification de niveau C2 en français est exigée des candidats dont ce n’est pas la langue maternelle. La connaissance de la région constitue un atout.

فتح المعهد الفرنسي للشرق الأدنى (Ifpo) باب الترشح لوظيفة باحث في قسم الدراسات العربية في العصور الوسطى والحديثة، في فرعه بالقدس. وتتمثّل مهمة من يقع عليه الاختيار في إنشاء قطب إقليمي للبحث في الإسلاميات وإدارته انطلاقاً من فلسطين، يشمل لبنان والأردن والعراق وفلسطين وسوريا. والمعهد من وحدات المعاهد الفرنسية للبحث في الخارج (UMIFRE)، ويخضع لوصاية وزارة أوروبا والشؤون الخارجية الفرنسية، ووزارة التعليم العالي والبحث والفضاء، والمركز الوطني للبحث العلمي (CNRS).
ويتولّى صاحب الوظيفة، تحت إشراف مدير المعهد ومدير القسم، إجراء أبحاثه الخاصة وإطلاق برامج بحثية جماعية، وحشد الباحثين والمؤسسات من المنطقة ومن دول الاتحاد الأوروبي، وإقامة شراكات، ولا سيّما مع المعهد الفرنسي للإسلاميات الجديد، واستقبال طلاب الدكتوراه، وتنظيم الحلقات الدراسية والتظاهرات العلمية، والبحث عن مصادر تمويل خارجية (ANR وERC والبرامج الأوروبية).
ويُشترط في المترشّحين الحصول على الدكتوراه من مؤسسة للتعليم العالي في فرنسا أو في دولة أخرى من دول الاتحاد الأوروبي، وإتقان الإنجليزية والعربية الفصحى وإحدى لهجات المشرق؛ أمّا من لم تكن الفرنسية لغته الأم فيُشترط حصوله على شهادة في الفرنسية بمستوى C2. وتُعدّ معرفة المنطقة ميزةً إضافية.
