Jamel El Hamri
Jamel El Hamri holds a doctorate in the history of contemporary Islam from the University of Strasbourg (2018) and a degree in Islamic studies from the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE, Paris). An associate researcher in the history of contemporary Islam and of Islam in France at the Catholic Institute of Paris, he works in applied Islamic studies, so that the analysis of currents of contemporary Islamic thought can inform political, educational and economic decisions.
He also works as a consultant for local authorities, businesses and associations on issues of youth, Islam and citizenship. His research focuses in particular on the history of Islam and Muslims in France and the Maghreb, Muslim reformist thought and the work of the Algerian intellectual Malek Bennabi (1905-1973).
