Géraldine Mossière
Born in 1975 in France, Géraldine Mossière is a full professor at the Institute of Religious Studies and the Department of Anthropology of the University of Montreal (UdeM).
An anthropologist, she was a visiting professor at the Institute of Mediterranean, European and Comparative Ethnology (IDEMEC, Aix-en-Provence) in 2018-2019, then held the EHESS/IMéRA chair in transregional studies at the Marseille Institute for Advanced Study in 2019-2020. In 2022 she received the Medal of Excellence in Research of the UdeM Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and in 2025 the Luc-Lacourcière Medal for her book Portraits de la modernité (non) religieuse.
Her work focuses on contemporary religious subjectivities and behaviours approached through ethnography: religious conversions, spirituality, care and healing, African Pentecostal churches, the trajectories of women converted to Islam, and religion and migration. She is the author of Converties à l’islam: parcours de femmes au Québec et en France (Presses de l’Université de Montréal, 2013) and Portraits de la modernité (non) religieuse (Presses de l’Université Laval).
She is a member of the “Religions and Societies” research group of the Master’s programme of the Al Mowafaqa Ecumenical Institute of Theology (IOTAM, Rabat).
