Religious Tourism and Sustainability in the MENA Region
Edited by Antonio Angelucci, Flavia Cortelezzi and Alessandro Cupri (Ledizioni, 2025), this volume offers a theoretical and methodological framework for religious tourism, a continuously expanding sector. It pays particular attention to the halal tourism market, projected to reach some 300 billion dollars by 2030, and to the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa).
Beyond pilgrimage, the contributors analyse forms of travel motivated by spiritual exploration, the rediscovery of cultural roots and the appreciation of religiously inspired artistic heritage. They advocate an educational approach to religious tourism, sensitive to cultural and spiritual dimensions and mindful of sustainability, so as to turn it into a genuine space for encounter, mutual understanding and respectful dialogue in an increasingly polarised society.
Dirigé par Antonio Angelucci, Flavia Cortelezzi et Alessandro Cupri (Ledizioni, 2025), ce volume propose un cadre théorique et méthodologique pour le tourisme religieux, secteur en pleine expansion. Il accorde une attention particulière au marché du tourisme halal, estimé à près de 300 milliards de dollars d’ici 2030, et à la région MENA (Moyen-Orient et Afrique du Nord).
Au-delà du pèlerinage, les auteurs analysent les formes de voyage motivées par la quête spirituelle, la redécouverte des racines culturelles et l’appréciation du patrimoine artistique d’inspiration religieuse. Ils plaident pour une approche éducative du tourisme religieux, sensible aux dimensions culturelles et spirituelles et attentive à la durabilité, afin d’en faire un espace de rencontre, de compréhension mutuelle et de dialogue dans une société de plus en plus polarisée.

وإلى جانب الحج، يحلّل المؤلفون أشكال السفر المدفوعة بالبحث الروحي وإعادة اكتشاف الجذور الثقافية وتذوّق التراث الفني ذي الإلهام الديني. ويدعون إلى مقاربة تربوية للسياحة الدينية تراعي الأبعاد الثقافية والروحية وتهتمّ بالاستدامة، لتصبح فضاءً للقاء والتفاهم المتبادل والحوار في مجتمع متزايد الاستقطاب.
