Hamideh Mohagheghi
Born in 1954 in Iran, Hamideh Mohagheghi is a jurist and Muslim theologian. She moved to Germany in 1977, where she studied law and religious studies at the University of Hannover and completed a doctoral thesis in 2019 on the relationship between the Quran and violence. Until 2021, she was a research associate in Qur’anic studies at the Center for Comparative Theology at the University of Paderborn.
A leading figure in Christian-Muslim dialogue in Germany, she is a member of the working group ‘Christians and Muslims’ of the Central Committee of German Catholics, as well as of the boards of the Christian-Islamic Society and of the interreligious House of One in Berlin. A co-founder and board member of the Muslim women’s network HUDA, she chaired the Muslim Academy in Germany.
Her work focuses on how violence is addressed in the Quran, the status of women in Islam and Muslim life in Western contexts.
