Sarah Marusek
Born in New York, Sarah Marusek is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds (School of Sociology and Social Policy) and a Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. Her work focuses on Islamic activism, Lebanese Shiism, Islamophobia and decoloniality.
Holding a PhD in Social Science (Maxwell School, Syracuse University), she carried out more than two years of ethnographic fieldwork in Lebanon on the institutions linked to the Islamic resistance movement (Hizbullah, the al-Mabarrat Association and the Imam al-Sadr Foundation). For Spinwatch (Public Interest Investigations), she co-authored a series of reports on the funding networks of transatlantic Islamophobia.
