Migration and the Transformations of Religion: Adaptations, Innovations and Interreligious Diapraxis
On Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November 2026, Pluriel’s research group “Religions and Societies”, based at the Al Mowafaqa Ecumenical Institute of Theology (Rabat), holds a seminar on how religion is being reshaped in contexts of migration. Researchers from Africa and North America bring their approaches into dialogue with the Institute’s students, who present their own fieldwork. The seminar pays particular attention to interreligious diapraxis, that is, dialogue that grows out of shared action among believers of different traditions.
Each session brings together two speakers: thirty minutes of presentation each, ten minutes of mutual response, then forty minutes of discussion with the students, who receive texts for reflection beforehand.
Friday 13 November
- 14:00–15:30: opening lecture by Martin Bellerose, “Interhospitality: Living Together beyond Integration”;
- 16:00–18:00: Géraldine Mossière, “Transnational Dynamics and Religious Accommodations”, and Paule Bilé, “Changes in Religious Practice in Contexts of Crisis Migration”.
Saturday 14 November
- 9:00–12:00: presentation of the students’ fieldwork;
- 13:00–15:00: Patrice Brodeur, “Interreligious Diapraxis in African Contexts: Intervision Practices and the Emerging Role of Young People”, and Rubin Pohor, “Religion, Migratory Imaginaries and the Construction of International Mobility Projects among Young People in Daloa (Côte d’Ivoire)”;
- 15:30–17:30: Yassine Acherkiy, “Thinking Migration through the Holy Spirit: Dynamics of Christianity in Contexts of Migration in Morocco”, and Nadia Vacaru, “Catholic Social Teaching as a Framework for Welcoming and Integrating African Immigrants in Quebec”.
