Companionship and Virtue in Classical Sufism: The Contribution of al-Sulamī
Companionship and Virtue in Classical Sufism: The Contribution of al-Sulamī (London: I.B. Tauris, 2024), by Jason Welle, is devoted to al-Sulamī (d. 412/1021), a major Sufi master of the classical era.
Through a historical reconstruction of Sufi companionship (ṣuḥba) in Khurasan, the author argues that al-Sulamī’s concept of ṣuḥba, particularly among young disciples, envisioned the transformation of society as a whole, not merely the master-disciple relationship. Bringing contemporary virtue ethics to bear on al-Sulamī’s spiritual method, the book offers an original analysis of his thought, of interest to scholars of early Islam and classical Sufism as well as to moral theologians concerned with virtue, character and friendship.
Paru sous le titre Companionship and Virtue in Classical Sufism: The Contribution of al-Sulamī (Londres : I.B.

Companionship and Virtue in Classical Sufism: The Contribution of al-Sulamī (London: I.B. Tauris, 2024)
