Jason Welle

Full professor Member of Research groups

Jason Welle is Assistant Professor of Comparative Theology at Boston College (USA), where he has taught since 2023. His research focuses on Sufism and Islamic mysticism (particularly in the medieval period), Muslim-Christian relations and the Franciscan intellectual tradition.

Holding a PhD in Theological and Religious Studies from Georgetown University and two master’s degrees (University of Notre Dame and Catholic Theological Union), he previously served as professor and Director of Studies at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI, Rome). His publications include Companionship and Virtue in Classical Sufism: The Contribution of al-Sulamī (I.B. Tauris, 2024).
