Treatises on the Sufi Way

Translated by Jason Welle, this book (Treatises on the Sufi Way, Islamic Texts Society, 2025) offers an English translation of five treatises by Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī (d. 412/1021), a Sufi master of the classical era.

The treatises address companionship on the Sufi path, proper comportment towards spiritual masters, spiritual poverty before God, the states of the Sufis and shame. Together they form an introduction to classical Sufism and to the relationship between the aspirant and the spiritual master.
