Religious Higher Education in Lebanon: A Comparative Study of Curricula
In this article published in the journal Proche-Orient Chrétien 75/1 (2025), Michel Younès and Roula Talhouk, both members of Pluriel’s coordination committee, offer a comparative study of religious higher education curricula in Lebanon. The article maps Christian university offerings (Université Saint-Joseph, Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik, Balamand, USEK, NDU…) and Muslim ones (Islamic University of Lebanon, Al-Jinan, Makassed…), analyzing the articulations between confessional formation, religious sciences, and the humanities.
This comparative contribution sheds light on Lebanon’s distinctive place as a laboratory of religious pluralism in Near Eastern higher education, as well as on the contemporary challenges these curricula face (demographic decline, student mobility, curricular transformations).
