Panel: 5 years of the “Document on the Fraternity of All People”: Opportunities, limits and perspectives for a religiously plural world

Wednesday, 10 January 2024 , 18:30-20:00, House of Encounter / Innsbruck

On 4 February 2019, Grand Imam Al-Tayyeb and Pope Francis adopted the “Document on the Fraternity of All People”. This is celebrated by many as a milestone in interfaith relations. Two high authorities from Christianity and Islam jointly declare the need for an intensive commitment to the well-being of all people. Plurality is perceived as a positive fact in this world, the responsibility for the realisation of fundamental freedoms is emphasised regardless of race, gender or religion. And yet this document seems to be little known, at least in Austria. The panel will shed light on the opportunities, limits and perspectives of the “Document on the Fraternity of All People” from a Christian, Muslim and philosophical-ethical perspective and then offer the opportunity to engage in dialogue.

This event is a collaboration between the Faculty of Catholic Theology, the Institute for Islamic Theology and Religious Education (both: University of Innsbruck) and the House of Encounter.

Speakers:

– Univ.-Prof. Dr. Abdullah Takim, Institute for Islamic Theology and Religious Education

– Ass.-Prof. Mag. Dr Michaela Quast-Neulinger MA, Institute for Systematic Theology, Faculty of Catholic Theology

– Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Guggenberger, Institute for Systematic Theology, Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology

– Christina Mair, BEd, winner of the essay competition “Challenges of Fraternity”, PLURIEL (University platform for research on Islam)

Chair: Ass.-Prof. Dr. Karin Peter, Institute for Practical Theology, Faculty of Catholic Theology
