Calls for projects “Islam, Religion and Society”
Each year, the Central Office of Religions, attached to the Directorate of Public Freedoms and Legal Affairs of the French Ministry of the Interior, issues a call for projects to support research undertaken by early-career researchers in Islamic studies or in the humanities and social sciences on Islam in France.
In February 2015, the French Government announced its intention to support research in Islamic studies and in the humanities and social sciences on Islam in France. This decision reflected an administrative need for expertise in these areas and followed the finding of a decline in Islamic studies in France (“White Paper” of the GIS Middle East/Muslim Worlds and the “Rare Disciplines” report, 2014).
Against this background, the Ministry of the Interior established the “Islam, Religion and Society” research credits, managed by the Central Office of Religions, which issues an annual call for projects to fund research projects involving early-career PhDs.
