Ilaria Valenzi
An Italian jurist, Ilaria Valenzi is a research fellow at the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) in Trento, within its Centre for Religious Studies. Her work explores the relationship between law and religion, and between religion and human rights, with particular attention to immigration law, minorities, anti-discrimination law and data protection. She also studies the interplay between law, artificial intelligence and intersectional discrimination.
As a lawyer, she assists many communities of the old and new religious pluralism, Muslim communities among them, in securing legal recognition of their status, as well as on matters of international protection connected with religious persecution. She chairs the Studies Section of the Commission for Studies, Dialogue and Integration of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy.
She holds a PhD in law from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She is a member of the Confronti Study Centre and of the research group “Atlas of religious or belief minorities rights”. She serves as secretary of REDESM (Religions, Rights and Economies in the Mediterranean Space), a research centre of the University of Insubria directed by Alessandro Ferrari.
