Leïla Tauil
Leïla Tauil is a lecturer at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and a member of the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World (CISMOC) at the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium). Holding a doctorate in the history of religions, her research focuses on the founding period of Islam, the historical development of Islamic law, the status of Muslim women, Islamic and secular Arab feminisms, and intercultural dialogue based on the work of Mohammed Arkoun.
She is the author of several books, including Les féministes de l’islam. De l’engagement religieux au féminisme islamique (Pensées féministes, 2011), Féminismes arabes : un siècle de combat. Les cas du Maroc et de la Tunisie (L’Harmattan, 2018) and Les femmes dans les discours fréristes, salafistes et féministes islamiques : une analyse des rapports de force genrés (Academia, 2020). She has also published numerous articles, given lectures and taken part in radio programmes on Islam, women and feminisms in the Arab world.
Her work contributes to debates on contemporary Islamic thought, between reform and tradition, and on women’s rights and gender equality in Muslim societies.
