Bruno Martín Baumeister
Bruno Martín Baumeister is a professor of commercial law (Derecho mercantil) at the Faculty of Law (ICADE) of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, within the Department of Economic and Social Law, where he has taught since 2011. He is a member of the Islamic Finance Observatory of Casa Árabe.
A law graduate of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE), he holds two Master of Laws (LLM) degrees, from the College of Europe (with a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and from the Europa-Institut of Saarland University (with a “la Caixa” scholarship), as well as a doctorate in law from Saarland University. He practised as a business lawyer (Clifford Chance, Cuatrecasas) and has been a visiting fellow at Georgetown Law Center, Fordham, Hong Kong University, Jindal Global University, the University of Deusto, the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg, and Paris X Nanterre.
His research focuses primarily on banking law and Islamic finance: Sharia-compliant financial instruments, sukuk, and Sharia as the law applicable to financing contracts.
