Mallory Schneuwly Purdie

A Swiss sociologist of religion, Mallory Schneuwly Purdie is a senior researcher at the Swiss Center for Islam and Society (CSIS) at the University of Fribourg. Holding a doctorate in sociology and the study of religions (2006), and trained in ethnology, sociology and religious studies, she is behind the specialised diploma (CAS) in Muslim chaplaincy developed by the centre. Her research addresses the presence of Islam in Swiss public institutions, particularly prisons, hospitals and schools: Muslim chaplaincy, religious experience in detention, gender and religiosity, conversion to Islam and radicalisation. She teaches in the universities of French-speaking Switzerland and trains civil-society practitioners.
