Vanessa Breidy
Born in Beirut in 1984, Vanessa Breidy holds a doctorate in Islamic Studies from the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) in Rome. Trained as a lawyer, holding a law degree from La Sagesse University (Beirut) and a master’s in political science from the Istituto Universitario Sophia (Florence), she is a practising lawyer and a member of the Beirut Bar Association. In 2023 she was a postdoctoral researcher and Annemarie Schimmel Fellow at the International Center for Comparative Theology and Social Issues of the University of Bonn. From 2015 to 2017 she led the “Citizenship and Coexistence” programme of the Adyan Foundation in Beirut. Her research focuses on the relationship between politics and religion, the Latin and Islamic Middle Ages, Sufism, and fraternity and diversity. She took part in the Pluriel congress “Islam and Otherness” in Beirut in 2022, on the oneness of God as a path of dialogue between believers.
