Internal movements within Islam
Contrary to popular belief, Islam is not limited to a single school of thought or legal school. It is marked by a quasi-constitutive diversity, which continues to this day, in the form of denominations or currents that do not completely overlap and are sometimes mutually exclusive.
How can we disentangle the levels and currents within a religion that is now part of the religious horizon of our Western societies? What sources do they draw on and what interpretations do they make of their resources?
The book is the result of a study day that took place in April 2008, organised by the Centre for the Study of Cultures and Religions (CECR), and brings together contributions that reflect a plural reality.
The legal, theological and sociological aspects of the issue are addressed through the rigorous analyses of Maurice Borrmans, Michel Younès, Bénédicte du Chaffaut, Franck Frégosi and Roger Michel.
