The Recognition of a Hummingbird. Essays on Interreligious Dialogue and Missionary Work (2007-2025)

Published in May 2026 by PISAI (Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Rome), this collection brings together the essays of Rémi Caucanas on interreligious dialogue and missionary work, written between 2007 and 2025. Its French title, La reconnaissance d’un colibri, alludes to the well-known fable of the bird that carries its single drop of water to help put out a fire, setting the tone for an intellectual journey marked by a modest yet tenacious commitment to dialogue.

The volume spans more than fifteen years of reflection: historical approaches to mission, theological readings of dialogue, field testimonies, and analyses of the institutional dynamics of PISAI and of the Church in Muslim contexts. It joins the French-language corpus on Christian-Muslim dialogue and offers, in its overall coherence, both a personal testimony and a working tool for students and researchers.

Rémi Caucanas, a speaker at the 2026 Pluriel Congress in Cordoba, is a familiar figure in the network.
