Christian–Muslim Dialogue in Focus: symposium of the Higher Education for Social Transformation research group in Innsbruck

Innsbruck, Austria. From October 29–31, 2024, the Faculty of Theology at the University of Innsbruck hosted the Kircher Network’s Higher Education for Social Transformation (HEST) workshop on Christian-Muslim dialogue. Focusing on “Comparative Methods for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations: Theological, Sociological, and Philosophical Perspectives,” professors from across the network presented and discussed their research on key issues in comparative theology.

A particular highlight was the presentation by Bishop Hermann Glettler of Innsbruck and Imam Abulwafa Mohammed of their newly published book Nicht den Hass, die Liebe wählen (Herder)—a moving testament to years of dialogue and friendship that invites readers to “choose love over hate.”

The workshop brought together fourteen professors representing the following institutions: University of Innsbruck; Sankt Georgen (Frankfurt); Universidad Loyola Andalucía (Granada); Saint Joseph University of Beirut; Ignatianum University in Kraków; Collegium Bobolanum (Warsaw); University of Vienna; University of Osnabrück; Chapel for Europe (Brussels); and the Jesuit community in Ankara.

The HEST research group on Christian-Muslim dialogue is coordinated by Jaime Flaquer, SJ (Universidad Loyola Andalucía), together with Tobias Specker, SJ (Sankt Georgen), and Professor Michaela Quast-Neulinger (University of Innsbruck), who organized the event.

Innsbruck, Autriche.
