Hossam el-Dine Allam
Hossam el-Dine Allam is a lecturer at al-Azhar University (Cairo), in the Department of Sharia and Law in English, and a State Counsellor at the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority. His research focuses on the foundations of Islamic law (usul al-fiqh), faith-based diplomacy, conflict transformation and peacebuilding.
Holder of a Master’s degree in Diplomacy and Religion from Lancaster University (Chevening scholar) and a KAICIID Fellow, he was a member of al-Azhar’s Global Fatwa Centre and a researcher at al-Azhar’s Observatory for Combating Extremism. He has also served as a religious leader in North America and taken part in the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations project for the protection of places of worship.
He took part in the summer school “Citizenship and Religious Pluralism” organised in July 2025 by the Anawati Chair at the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies (IDEO, Cairo), and is a member of the Pluriel-affiliated research group of the same name that emerged from this meeting.
