Diego Alonso-Lasheras
Diego Alonso-Lasheras, s.j., is an Extraordinary Professor of moral theology and social ethics at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he has taught since 2008 and headed the Department of Moral Theology from 2018 to 2024. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame’s Rome campus (“Catholic Social Tradition and Migration”).
Holding a BA/MA in Law (1992) and Business (1993) from ICADE (Madrid) and a doctorate in theology (STD, 2007) from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology, his main fields of research are economics and ethics, religious freedom, and the history of moral theology. He teaches a course on “Religious Freedom and Peacebuilding” and explores how the Catholic understanding of religious freedom can help build peace.
He took part in the HIWAR project of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, devoted to encounter and dialogue with Islam, and in a team studying the Islamic vision of economy, society and politics. He also pays particular attention to Ignatian spirituality and Catholic social teaching.
