Ziaka Angeliki
Born in Greece, Angeliki Ziaka is Professor of the Study of Religion at the School of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), where she serves as scientific head of the committee of the undergraduate programme in Islamic Studies.
She holds a doctorate from the University of Strasbourg (2002), with a thesis entitled “La recherche grecque contemporaine et l’islam”, and trained at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI, Rome), the Catholic Faculty of Theology of Strasbourg and the History Department of the University of Amman, conducting fieldwork in Iran and Oman.
Her research focuses on early and medieval Islamic historiography and kalām, Ibadism, Byzantine and post-Byzantine literature on Islam, the re-articulation of Muslim identities in the Middle East, interreligious dialogue and religious education. She is a board member of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, where she heads the sector of interreligious relations, and a member of the international scholarly network on Ibadi Studies.
