Karim Kardady
Born in Morocco, Karim Kardady is a PhD candidate in applied human sciences at the University of Montreal, under the supervision of Violaine Lemay and the co-supervision of Wael Saleh. His thesis, “Islamism, terrorism and digital propaganda: what prospects for preventive intervention against the online recruitment of young people?”, examines online radicalization. A former member of Morocco’s intelligence services (Directorate-General for Territorial Surveillance, counter-terrorism) for over eight years, he developed expertise in the analysis of radicalization leading to violence, in particular radical Islamism. He holds a law degree from Hassan II University in Casablanca and two master’s degrees from the University of Sherbrooke (applied political studies; intercultural mediation), and is an associate researcher with the Pluriel and TSAS (Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society) networks. He is a member of the research group “Epistemological and methodological issues in the study of violence in the name of Islam” (Montreal), affiliated with Pluriel.
