Carmen Marquez
María del Carmen Márquez Beunza is a professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid), in the Department of Dogmatic and Fundamental Theology, where she has taught since 2002 and heads the TUP programme (evening Bachelor of Theology). An expert in ecumenism, ecclesiology and interreligious dialogue, she has served since 2021 as a consultant to the Spanish Episcopal Subcommission for Interconfessional Relations and Interreligious Dialogue.
A law graduate of the University of Valencia and a doctor of theology from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, she defended a thesis on “The Christian Churches and Apartheid in South Africa: a theological analysis of the Kairos Document,” awarded the Bartolomé de las Casas Prize (University of Fribourg) and the José María Ramón de San Pedro Prize (Comillas).
Her work focuses in particular on the ecumenical movement, interreligious dialogue and dialogue with cultures, the reception of the Reformation, and the environmental dimension of ecumenical dialogue.
