Jacques Ellul and Islam: Analysis of a Discourse and Its Reception
Published in 2026 in the collective volume Protestantisme et islam. Regards croisés (XVIe-XXIe siècles) (ed. Pierre-Olivier Léchot, Brepols, “Bibliothèque de l’École des hautes études, Sciences religieuses”), this chapter by Dominique Avon analyses the discourse on Islam of the Protestant thinker Jacques Ellul (1912-1994) and the way that discourse was received.
The author reconstructs the springs of Ellul’s often polemical reading of Islam and sheds light on its legacy, contributing to a history of Protestant views of the Muslim world.
Protestantisme et islam. Regards croisés (XVIe-XXIe siècles)
