Fouad Gehad Marei is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies at Lund University and a Research Associate at the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt.
Fouad’s research interests include Islamic religiosity and piety movements, Shii politics, Islamic eschatology, materiality of religion and modes of religious expression, and jihadi violence. His current research examines Shii ritual practices and cultures in the Middle East and the diaspora.
He holds a PhD from Durham University and has previously worked at the Free University of Berlin, the Orient Institute in Beirut, Lebanon, and the University of Birmingham.
