Josep Buades
Born in 1966 in Spain, Josep (Pep) Buades Fuster is a Jesuit, a member of the Jesuit Migrant Service (SJM) and one of its leading experts on migration in Spain. A graduate in law (ICADE) and theology (Pontifical University of Comillas and the Jesuit Faculties of Paris-Centre Sèvres), he was sent by the Society of Jesus to work in the field of migration and, from there, in interreligious encounter, particularly with Muslims.
He directed the CeiMigra Foundation in Valencia, subsequently the Claver Association of the SJM in Seville, and Caritas in the Apostolic Prefecture of Laâyoune-Sahara. Stationed in the Canary Islands, he is a trustee of the ECCA foundations and chaplain of Stella Maris, the Apostleship of the Sea, in the Diocese of Canarias. Present at the Spanish “Southern Border” through the ECCA Social Foundation, he is part of the Atlantic Ecclesial Hospitality Network, which unites 26 African, 2 Canarian and 3 Andalusian dioceses that accompany migrants along this migratory route.
A member of the ‘Dos orillas’ group, he maintains ongoing contact and reflection on interreligious dialogue, in particular between Christians and Muslims.
