Khalid El Khadiri
Khalid El Khadiri is a PhD candidate in the history and sociology of religions and cultural history at the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE, PSL University), within the Groupe Sociétés, Religions, Laïcités (GSRL, UMR 8582, CNRS / EPHE-PSL).
Holder of a master’s degree in the sciences of religions and societies from Lumière Lyon 2 University (2021), with a dissertation on Christian-Muslim dialogue in Lyon since Vatican II, he is preparing a doctoral thesis entitled “The Reception of Ǧalāl al-Dīn Rūmī’s Work in France: Cultural Mediations, Symbolic Transfers and the Recomposition of Belief”, under the supervision of Alberto Fabio Ambrosio, o.p., and Fatiha Kaoues.
His research focuses on the contemporary reception of Muslim mysticism, and of Rūmī’s work in particular, in a secularised society: the sociology of spiritualities, the individualisation of belief, spiritual hybridisation, and the uses of Sufism in contemporary France, drawing on a survey based on biographical interviews. He also chairs the association “Entre connaissances”, devoted to inter-spiritual and intercultural dialogue. He contributed to the drafting of the syntheses of the fifth Pluriel Congress in Córdoba (2026).
