Anja Middelbeck-Varwick
Born in 1974 in Germany, Anja Middelbeck-Varwick (Prof. Dr. phil. habil. theol.) teaches theology of religions and religious studies at the Department of Catholic Theology of Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, since October 2019. She was previously professor of Catholic theology at the Europa-Universität Flensburg and junior professor of systematic theology at the Seminar for Catholic Theology of the Free University of Berlin.
After studying Catholic theology at the University of Münster, she obtained her doctorate at the Free University of Berlin in 2006, with a dissertation on the question of theodicy in Christianity and Islam. Her habilitation in intercultural theology and religious studies was accepted in 2017 at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Salzburg (Austria), under the title Cum Aestimatione. Konturen einer christlichen Islamtheologie (Münster, 2017).
She is a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK), an advisor to the World Church Commission of the German Bishops’ Conference, and a member of the German Justitia et Pax Commission.
