Muna Tatari
Born in 1971 in Germany, Muna Tatari is Professor of Islamic Systematic Theology (Kalam) at the Paderborn Institute for Islamic Theology (PIIT), University of Paderborn. She was a member of the German Ethics Council (Deutscher Ethikrat) from 2020 to 2025, being the first Muslim woman appointed to it. She holds a doctorate in comparative theology from the University of Paderborn.
Her research focuses on liberation-theological perspectives, the public voice of theology in a secular society, conceptions of the theological principle of tawḥīd (divine oneness), the relationship between faith and action, and comparative theology.
She has co-edited The Objectives of Islamic Law: The Promises and Challenges of the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿa (2018, with Idris Nassery and Rumee Ahmed), and co-authored with Klaus von Stosch Prophetin, Jungfrau, Mutter: Maria im Koran (2021).
