A Culture of Connectedness: The Complex Relations Between Christians and Muslims

In this article published in the Jesuit journal Stimmen der Zeit 11/2025 (pp. 819-826), Tobias Specker offers a theological reflection on what he calls the “culture of connectedness” (Kultur der Verbundenheit) between Christians and Muslims. Published under the original title « Kultur der Verbundenheit. Komplexe Beziehungen von Christen und Muslimen », the article moves beyond the opposition between conflictual and harmonious models of dialogue to propose a phenomenology of the ordinary, institutional, and spiritual ties that cross both traditions.

Chair of “Catholic Theology in Light of Islam” at Sankt Georgen Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology (Frankfurt), Tobias Specker situates this contribution within his long-term work on the Christian theology of dialogue and on the theological reception of Islam in the German-speaking context.
