Anti-Muslim Racism in Switzerland: A Baseline Study
Commissioned by the Swiss Confederation’s Service for Combating Racism (SLR), this study (SZIG/CSIS-Studies 12, 2025) is the first comprehensive baseline survey of anti-Muslim racism in Switzerland, carried out by the Swiss Centre for Islam and Society (SZIG/CSIS) at the University of Fribourg. It is authored by Noemi Trucco, Asmaa Dehbi, Amir Dziri and Hansjörg Schmid.
The team conducted seventeen interviews with people affected, surveyed some thirty experts from specialised organisations, public administrations, Muslim organisations and universities, and analysed more than two hundred scholarly publications. The conclusion is clear: experiences of anti-Muslim racism are not isolated cases but a widespread phenomenon that manifests itself in all areas of life, at school, in hospital and at work, with profound consequences for those affected.
The study is available in open access in French, German and Italian: download the study on FOLIA (University of Fribourg).
