“In a contemporary context marked by a growing tendency to lock oneself into oppositional logics, reflection on otherness in Islam opens up an indispensable perspective for understanding the way in which the other is perceived. Examining this relationship highlights the norms that govern interactions and the normative frameworks, often operating in depth, that govern the resulting relationships with the other. It was in the context of this debate that the 3rd International PLURIEL Congress was organised at St Joseph’s University, Beirut, from 23 to 25 May 2022, bringing together researchers from different universities around the world. The present proceedings highlight these dynamics through in-depth analyses, exploring the contemporary and historical issues linked to this articulation. They thus contribute to a broader understanding, in a complex global context, of the various ways of considering and defining the other in Islam.
