Leïla Tauil

Leïla Tauil is a lecturer at the University of Geneva and a member of the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at UCLouvain. She holds a doctorate in the history of religions, and her research focuses on the foundational period of Islam, the historical development of Islamic law, the status of Muslim women, Islamic and secular Arab feminisms, and intercultural dialogue based on the work of Mohammed Arkoun.

She is the author of several books, including “Arab Feminisms: A Century of Struggle. The Cases of Morocco and Tunisia” (2018) and “Women in the Discourses of the Muslim Brotherhood, Salafists, and Islamic Feminists” (2020). She has also published numerous academic and general-interest articles, given lectures, and participated in radio programs on the topics of Islam, women, and feminisms in the Arab world.

Leïla Tauil actively contributes to debates on Islamic thought, between reform and tradition, and advocates for women’s rights and gender equality in Muslim societies.
