Resisting the Ill Winds and Repairing Our Humanity Together: Christian and Muslim Perspectives

On Saturday 21 November 2026, as part of the Christian-Muslim Encounter Weeks (SERIC), the Christian-Muslim Friendship Group (GAIC) and the Institute of Science and Theology of Religions (ISTR) of the Institut Catholique de Paris (ICP) are holding a day of encounter and reflection entitled “Resisting the Ill Winds and Repairing Our Humanity Together”.

At a time when tensions run through our societies, people withdraw into themselves and the bonds between us grow fragile, how can we resist without yielding to fear and regain the ability to act together? Christians and Muslims are invited to bring their perspectives together on shared concerns: caring for personal and social relationships, protecting nature and rethinking justice. Dialogue thus becomes a space for better understanding today’s challenges and for reflecting on each person’s responsibility in building a shared future.

Speakers from a range of disciplines will shed light on these three challenges, with the aim of fostering reflection and opening up avenues for action in our encounters, our commitments and our everyday lives. The programme:

  • Building a common humanity: Mark Hunyadi, Professor of Social, Moral and Political Philosophy at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), and Farid El Asri, Dean of the College of Social Sciences at the International University of Rabat (Morocco);
  • Repairing personal and social bonds: Sadek Beloucif, Professor of Medicine and former member of the French National Consultative Ethics Committee, and Odile Grellet, Director of Social Inclusion for the Île-de-France region at the Salvation Army;
  • Repairing nature to repair humanity: Omero Marongiu-Perria, sociologist and Muslim theologian, and Antoine Veziant-Rolland, co-president of Église verte, the ecumenical environmental label for Christian communities in France;
  • Repairing justice: Mireille Chemillier-Gendreau, Professor Emerita of Public Law and Political Science at Université Paris-Diderot, and Haoues Seniguer, Professor of Contemporary History of International Relations at Paul-Valéry University Montpellier 3.
  • Date: Saturday 21 November 2026, 9:00–16:00 (Paris time);
  • Venue: Institut Catholique de Paris, 74 rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris;
  • Registration: required, via the GAIC registration page;
  • Details: see the event page on the ICP website (in French).

  • Faire humanité ensemble : Mark Hunyadi, professeur de philosophie sociale, morale et politique à l’Université catholique de Louvain (Belgique), et Farid El Asri, doyen du Collège des sciences sociales de l’Université internationale de Rabat (Maroc) ;
  • Réparer les liens individuels et sociaux : Sadek Beloucif, professeur de médecine, ancien membre du Comité consultatif national d’éthique, et Odile Grellet, directrice de l’inclusion sociale en Île-de-France à l’Armée du Salut ;
  • Réparer la nature pour réparer l’humain : Omero Marongiu-Perria, sociologue et théologien musulman, et Antoine Veziant-Rolland, coprésident d’Église verte ;
  • Date : samedi 21 novembre 2026, de 9h à 16h ;
  • Lieu : Institut catholique de Paris, 74 rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris ;
  • Inscription : obligatoire, sur la billetterie du GAIC ;
