Did Jesus announce the coming of Muhammad?

In their dialogue with Muslims, Christians are repeatedly confronted with the claim that Jesus announced the coming of Muhammad as the last prophet. This is evidenced by the fact that unorthodox traditions of the Gospel of John are mentioned.
The Christian interpretation of the Gospel of John, however, comes to a completely different conclusion. The different results of the interpretation shed light on the fundamental understanding of the Jewish-Christian scripture and its interpretation in Islam. For the Christian-Muslim dialogue, nothing less than the respectful treatment and validity of interpretation is at stake.

Dans leur dialogue avec les musulmans, les chrétiens sont sans cesse confrontés à l’affirmation selon laquelle Jésus aurait annoncé la venue de Mahomet comme dernier prophète. Pour preuve, des traditions non orthodoxes de l’Évangile de Jean sont mentionnées.
L’interprétation chrétienne de l’Évangile de Jean aboutit cependant à une conclusion tout à fait différente. Les différents résultats de l’interprétation éclairent la compréhension fondamentale de l’écriture sainte judéo-chrétienne et son interprétation dans l’islam. Pour le dialogue islamo-chrétien, l’enjeu est rien de moins que le traitement respectueux et la validité de l’interprétation.

يواجه المسيحيّون باستمرار في حوارهم مع المُسلمين الادّعاء بأن اليسوع أعلن عن قدوم محمّد كخاتم الأنبياء. ويقدّم المسلمون إثباتاً على ذلك مرتكزين على التقاليد غير الأرثوذكسية المذكورة في إنجيل يوحنا.
إلّا أنّ تفسير المسيحيّين لإنجيل يوحنا يكشف نتائج مختلفة كلّ الاختلاف. سلّطت نتائج التفسيرات المختلفة الضوء على الفهم الأساسي للكتاب المقدّس اليهودي -المسيحي وتأويله في الإسلام. لذا ما يهدّدُ الحوار المسيحي المُسلم، يتمثّلُ بمعالجة التفسير وصحّته بشكل لائقٍ.

Christen sehen sich im Dialog mit Muslimen immer wieder mit der Behauptung konfrontiert, Jesus habe das Kommen Muhammads als letzten Propheten angekündigt. Als Beleg werden frühe, nichtorthodoxe Überlieferungen des Johannesevangeliums genannt.
Die christliche Auslegung des Johannesevangeliums kommt aber zu einem ganz anderen Ergebnis. Die unterschiedlichen Auslegungsergebnisse werfen ein Licht auf das grundsätzliche Verständnis der jüdisch-christlichen Heiligen Schrift und ihrer Auslegung im Islam. Es steht für den christlich-islamischen Dialog nicht weniger als der respektvolle Umgang und die angemessene Interpretation der Bibel auf dem Prüfstand.
