The Event of the Qur’an: Islam in its Scripture

Published as Das Ereignis des Koran. Der Islam in seiner Schrift (Regensburg: Verlag Friedrich Pustet, 2026), this volume is the first German translation of the classic work by the Anglican Islamicist Kenneth Cragg, The Event of the Qur’an. Islam in its Scripture (1971).

Cragg reads the Qur’an with close attention to its historical setting (religious, political, cultural and geographical) and to its poetic language, inviting the reader to understand the Muslim scripture as the living testimony of a religious and transformative experience.

The book appears in the CIBEDO-Schriftenreihe (volume 8), the series of CIBEDO (the German Christian-Muslim centre for encounter and documentation, Frankfurt), edited by Christian Troll, Tobias Specker and Timo Güzelmansur. The German translation and foreword are by Christian Troll, Robin Flack and David Marshall, with a contribution by Andreas Renz.

Der Islam in seiner Schrift (Ratisbonne : Verlag Friedrich Pustet, 2026), ce volume est la première traduction allemande de l’ouvrage classique de l’islamologue anglican Kenneth Cragg, The Event of the Qur’an. Islam in its Scripture (1971).
