Opening Up Space: Universalism as a Prophetic Task in Interreligious Responsibility
In this article published in CIBEDO-Beiträge zum Gespräch zwischen Christen und Muslimen 1/2026 (pp. 2-8), Michaela Quast-Neulinger, Professor of Fundamental Theology at the University of Innsbruck and member of Pluriel’s coordination committee, revisits the concept of universalism in light of interreligious responsibility. Published under the original title « Den Raum eröffnen. Universalismus als prophetische Aufgabe in interreligiöser Verantwortung », the article offers a prophetic reading of universality, understood not as totalization but as the opening of a space of encounter between traditions.
The author develops a theology of vulnerability at the service of Muslim-Christian dialogue, in dialogue with the post-Vatican II Catholic tradition and contemporary Muslim theologies. The article is part of the mission of CIBEDO (Christlich-Islamische Begegnungs- und Dokumentationsstelle), the German Catholic organization dedicated to dialogue with Islam.

L’auteure développe une théologie de la vulnérabilité au service du dialogue islamo-chrétien, en dialogue avec la tradition catholique post-Vatican II et les théologies musulmanes contemporaines. L’article s’inscrit dans le cadre de la mission de la CIBEDO (Christlich-Islamische Begegnungs- und Dokumentationsstelle), organisme catholique allemand dédié au dialogue avec l’islam.
