Karim Kardady

Manager within the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud de Montréal (as of 2011) and CISSS de Laval (as of 2018), as head of service in the rehabilitation center for adolescents and young offenders.

As a former member of the Moroccan civil service, I worked in the intelligence services of the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du territoire (counter-terrorism) for more than 8 years. During this experience, I accumulated an expertise in the analysis of issues related to radicalization leading to violence (radical Islamism and left-wing fringe groups).

In Quebec, I have participated as a speaker in several colloquiums dealing with issues of violence related to religious and sectarian extremism, held by the SoDRUS (Centre de recherche Société, Droit et Religion de l’université de Sherbrooke) and the UNESCO-PREV Chair.

In addition to a background in law and criminology, I hold two master’s degrees (Political Science & Intercultural Mediation). Currently, I am a PHD candidate in Applied Human Sciences at the University of Montreal and a research associate of the PLURIEL and TSAS (Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society) networks.

Epistemological and methodological issues in studies on violence in the name of Islam (Montreal)

This group aims to provide food for thought on the following questions: Are the available conceptual and epistemological methods and tools adequate enough to decipher the specific and complex discourses, practices and developments related to the use of violence in the name of Islam? Isn’t new research imperative to enrich our understanding of this phenomenon, to redress perspectives, to fill current gaps and to deconstruct widespread prejudices?
