“The 1970s Debates on the Architectural Separation between the Mosque and the Cathedral of Córdoba”, by José Luis Llaquet de Entrambasaguas
In the collective volume Gobernar la desorganización global (ed. Alfonso Chaves-Montero, Dykinson, 2026), José Luis Llaquet de Entrambasaguas, professor of state ecclesiastical law at Loyola Andalusia University, examines the 1970s debates over the “architectural segregation” between the Mosque and the Cathedral of Córdoba.
He retraces the heritage controversy that set those who called for restoring the monument’s “original integrity and purity”, that is, the great Umayyad mosque, against those who defended preserving the cultural superimpositions accumulated over the centuries. Through this emblematic case of Hispano-Muslim heritage, he sheds light on the contested memory of al-Andalus and the still-vivid stakes of the coexistence of Islamic and Christian legacies in Spain.
Dans l’ouvrage collectif Gobernar la desorganización global (dir. Alfonso Chaves-Montero, Dykinson, 2026), José Luis Llaquet de Entrambasaguas, professeur de droit ecclésiastique de l’État à l’université Loyola Andalousie, consacre une étude aux débats des années 1970 sur la « ségrégation architecturale » entre la Mosquée et la Cathédrale de Cordoue.
Il y retrace la controverse patrimoniale qui opposa les partisans d’une restauration de l’« intégrité et de la pureté originelles » du monument, c’est-à-dire de la grande mosquée omeyyade, à ceux qui défendaient la conservation des superpositions culturelles accumulées au fil des siècles. À travers ce cas emblématique du patrimoine hispano-musulman, il éclaire la mémoire disputée d’al-Andalus et les enjeux, encore vifs, de la coexistence des héritages islamique et chrétien en Espagne.
إنّ خوسيه لويس لاكيت دي إنترامباساغواس، أستاذَ قانون الدولة الكنسيّ في جامعة لويولا الأندلس، يدرس — في الكتاب الجماعيّ «حُكْم الفوضى العالميّة» (بإشراف ألفونسو تشافيس مونتيرو، دار ديكنسون، 2026) — نقاشاتِ سبعينيّات القرن العشرين حول «الفصل المعماريّ» بين مسجد قرطبة وكاتدرائيّتها.
ويستعيد الجدلَ التراثيَّ الذي قابل بين مَن دعوا إلى استعادة «السلامة والنقاء الأصليَّين» للمعْلَم، أي المسجدِ الأمويّ الكبير، ومَن دافعوا عن صَون التراكمات الثقافيّة المتعاقبة عبر القرون. ومن هنا يُلقي الضوءَ، من خلال هذه الحالة الرمزيّة للتراث الإسلاميّ الإسبانيّ، على الذاكرة المتنازَع عليها للأندلس، فضلاً عن الرهانات التي لا تزال حيّةً حول تعايش الإرثَين الإسلاميّ والمسيحيّ في إسبانيا.
