Roman Siebenrock
Born in 1957 in Germany, Roman Anton Siebenrock is a retired professor (Professor i.R.) of dogmatic theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Innsbruck (Austria), where he taught from 2006 until his retirement in 2022 and directed the Institute for Systematic Theology (2017-2022).
He studied Catholic theology, philosophy and adult education at the universities of Innsbruck and Munich (1977-1984), completed his doctorate in 1993 and his habilitation in fundamental theology in 2001. His research focuses on the Second Vatican Council and on the thought of Karl Rahner and John Henry Newman; he coordinated the university’s research platform devoted to religion, violence, communication and world order.
A member of the editorial board of the Zeitschrift für Katholische Theologie (since 2007) and of the scientific council of the Karl Rahner Prize, he chairs the International German Newman Society and the Austrian section of the European Society for Catholic Theology. Within the international project “Vaticanum II. Ereignis und Auftrag” (Vatican II: Event and Mandate), he coordinates the commentaries on the conciliar declarations Nostra Aetate and Dignitatis Humanae, which makes him a voice in interreligious dialogue, in particular with Islam.
